The dashboard, also known as the instrument desk, is widely used in the cabs of all vehicles and construction machinery. It is mainly composed of instruments, steering wheels, instrument panel shells, instrument panel frames and instrument panel wiring harnesses.
Dashboard injection molding process
The dried plastic particles are sheared by the screw and heated and melted in the barrel in the injection molding machine, then injected into the dashboard mould and cooled to obtain the finished product.
Used to manufacture hard plastic instrument panel bodies, blister and soft instrument panel frames and most other related parts. Hard plastic dashboard materials mostly use PP, and the dashboard skeleton materials mainly include PC/ABS, PP, PPO (PPE) and other modified materials. For other parts, ABS, PVC, PC, PA and other materials are selected according to different function, structure and appearance requirements.
The injection molding process can be further divided into: gas-assisted injection molding, sequence valve injection molding, composite injection molding, insert injection molding, two-color injection molding, secondary injection molding, etc.
Gas-assisted injection molding
Gas-assisted injection molding is an injection molding process in which molten plastic particles are injected into the mold while a certain amount of inert gas is injected, and a hollow structure is formed in a specific area of the part through the design of the gas path, structure and process control. The hollow structure not only enhances the mechanical properties of the parts, but also reduces the wall thickness of the parts, improves the appearance of the parts, and reduces material costs and forming cycles.
Sequence valve injection molding
Through the valves interlocked with the equipment, the opening and closing of different gates of the hot runner of the mold are controlled, thereby controlling the injection molding process of the material flow. This process is suitable for thin-walled and long-flow products, reducing the requirements for equipment clamping force, optimizing surface quality, and shortening the forming cycle.
Composite injection molding
A sheet that matches the shape of the mold or has no shape is placed on the movable side of the injection mold and then injection molded, so that the product has a two-layer structure and the mold is used to give the shape. The advantage is that the processing steps are reduced, the apparent quality of the product is good, and the bonding force between parts is strong.
instrument panel insert injection molding
It is relatively popular in the home appliance industry. This process is used in the manufacturing of various electrical switches in the production of instrument panels. It is to place the metal parts to be embedded in the injection molded parts in the mold before injection molding, and then the molten plastic will partially cover them to form parts after injection molding.
instrument panel two-color injection molding
On a two-color injection molding machine, different colors/types of raw materials are injected simultaneously/sequentially into a dedicated dashboard mould within the same production cycle, so that the product has different appearance/performance. However, due to its huge investment in equipment and molds, it is gradually being used twice. Replaced by injection molding.
Instrument panel secondary injection molding
Secondary injection molding is insert injection molding in which the injection molded parts are inserts. It is mainly used for parts with high mechanical performance and appearance requirements. Material selection is the key to this process.
