Structural Elements To Consider In Plastic Mold Design

Plastic mold design is based on correct plastic product design, and mold design and manufacturing are closely related to plastic processing. The success or failure of plastic processing largely depends on the influence of mold design and mold manufacturing quality. The structural elements to be considered in plastic mold design are:
1. Parting surface, which is the contact surface between the female and male molds when closing the mold. The selection of position and shape is influenced by factors such as product shape and appearance, wall thickness, forming method, post-processing technology, mold type and structure, demolding method, and machine structure.
2. Structural components, such as sliders, sloping tops, straight top blocks, etc. Complex molds. The design of structural components is very important and is related to mold life, processing cycle, cost, and product quality. Therefore, in the complex core structure design of molds, designers must seek a more comprehensive design, the simplest, durable, and more economical design solution.
3. Mold accuracy, i.e. avoiding adhesion, precise positioning, guide pillars, positioning pins, etc. The positioning system is related to product appearance quality, mold quality, and service life. Choose different positioning methods for different mold structures. The control of positioning accuracy mainly depends on the process. The internal mold positioning is mainly designed by designers, with the aim of fully considering and designing a more reasonable and easily adjustable positioning method.
4. Pouring system, which is the feeding channel from the injection molding machine nozzle to the mold cavity. Including main runner, secondary runner, gate, and cold material chamber. Especially, the location of the gate should be selected to allow the molten plastic to flow well and fill the mold cavity. When opening the mold, the solid runner and gate cold material connected to the product will easily pop out of the mold. (excluding hot runner molds).
5. Plastic shrinkage and various factors that affect product dimensional accuracy (mold manufacturing and assembly errors, mold wear, etc.). In addition, when designing compression and injection molds, it is also necessary to consider the matching of molding machine process and structural parameters. Computer aided design technology is widely used in plastic mold design.
