What is the design process of a bumper?

Before bumper mould manufacturing, we must have the bumper design. How to create a bumper design? For after market parts, we make the design according to the original bumper. The process of copying original parts is called reverse engineering or reverse design.

The design team of Pinheng Mould is highly skilled in reverse engineering a car bumper. Here's a general process for reverse engineering a car bumper.

3D Scanning: Use a 3D scanner to capture the physical shape and contours of the bumper. This creates a digital 3D model of the bumper's surface, including its overall shape and details.

Point Cloud Data: After scanning, the 3D scanner generates a point cloud data set, which represents the bumper's surface as a collection of points in 3D space. This data is then converted into a usable format for further processing.

CAD Reconstruction: Import the point cloud data into CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. Using specialized software tools, reconstruct the bumper's geometry by fitting surfaces and creating a solid model that accurately represents the original bumper.

Analyzing Features: Once the basic shape is reconstructed, analyze the features of the bumper such as mounting points, curves, angles, and any other design elements that contribute to its functionality and aesthetics.

At last, we send ready 3D files by STEP format to customer for checking. After customer's approval, we start to do mould design according to customer's technical requirements.
