How Should I Maintain My Injection Mold?

Plastic Bucket Mould

As the most important molding equipment in the production and processing process, the quality of the injection mold directly affects the quality of the product. Moreover, because the mold accounts for a large proportion of the production cost of the enterprise, its service life is directly related to the cost of injection molded products. Therefore, improving the quality of injection molds, maintaining and extending their life cycle is an important management content for injection molding enterprises to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

1. First of all, each mold should be equipped with a resume card, and its use, care (lubrication, cleaning, rust prevention) and damage should be recorded and counted in detail, so as to find which parts and components have been damaged and the degree of wear and tear, so as to provide information to find and solve problems, as well as the molding process parameters of the mold and the materials used in the product, so as to shorten the test time of the mold and improve production efficiency.

2. Under the normal operation of the injection molding machine and mold, test the various properties of the mold, and measure the size of the final molded plastic parts, through which the existing state of the mold can be determined, and the damage of the cavity, core, cooling system and parting surface can be found, and the damage status of the mold and maintenance measures can be judged according to the information provided by the plastic parts.

3. Focus on tracking and testing important parts of the mold: the role of ejection and guide parts is to ensure the opening and closing movement of the mold and the ejection of plastic parts, if any part of it is stuck due to damage, it will lead to production stoppage, so it is necessary to keep the lubrication of the mold thimble and guide pillar (the most suitable lubricant should be selected), and regularly check whether the thimble and guide pillar are deformed and surface damaged, and once found, they should be replaced in time; After the completion of a production cycle, the working surface, movement and guide parts of the mold should be coated with professional anti-rust oil, and special attention should be paid to the protection of the elastic strength of the bearing parts of the gear, rack and pinion mold and spring mold to ensure that it is always in good condition.

4. As the production time continues, the cooling channel is easy to deposit scale, rust, sludge and algae, etc., which makes the cross-section of the cooling channel smaller and the cooling channel narrower, which greatly reduces the heat exchange rate between the coolant and the mold and increases the production cost of the enterprise, so enough attention should be paid to the cleaning of the runner.

5. The maintenance of hot runner mold, heating and control system is particularly important to help prevent the occurrence of production failure. Therefore, after the end of each production cycle, the belt heater, rod heater, heating probe and thermocouple on the mold should be measured with an ohmmeter, if there is damage, it should be replaced in time, and compared with the mold history, make a record, so that the problem can be found in time and countermeasures can be taken.

6. It is necessary to pay attention to the surface maintenance of the mold, which directly affects the surface quality of the product, and the focus is to prevent corrosion, so it is particularly important to choose a suitable, high-quality and professional anti-rust oil.

After the mold completes the production task, different methods should be adopted according to different injection molding materials to carefully remove the injection residue. Copper rods, copper wires, and specialty mold cleaners can be used to remove residual injection molding and other deposits from the mold and then air dry. It is strictly forbidden to clean hard objects such as wires and steel bars to avoid scratching the surface. If rust spots occur due to injection corrosion, a grinder should be used to grind and polish, spray with professional anti-rust oil, and then store the mold in a dry, cool and dust-free place.
